Birth chart calculator
Create your birth chart from your birth date, time and place: chart wheel, Placidus houses, planet table, major aspects and element balance. You can also calculate it with the Vedic system.
How is the birth chart calculated?
Time and place
Coordinates and the time zone are found from the district, province and country. The birth time is converted to universal time (UTC) with the daylight saving rules in force on that date.
Planets
The geocentric positions of the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto are calculated. Retrograde motion is found by comparing a planet's position six hours later.
Ascendant and MC
The ascendant is the ecliptic degree on the eastern horizon, the MC (midheaven) the one at the highest point of the sky; both come from the local sidereal time and latitude.
Placidus houses
Placidus, the most common house system in the West, divides the day and night arcs of the sky into thirds by time. The intermediate cusps are found iteratively; at very high latitudes equal houses are used.
Aspects
Conjunctions (0°), sextiles (60°), squares (90°), trines (120°) and oppositions (180°) between planets are searched within an orb.
Vedic option
If you choose the Vedic system, the star-based sidereal zodiac (Lahiri ayanamsa), whole-sign houses, a North Indian chart, nakshatras and Vimshottari dasha are used.
In the chart the ascendant is on the left (at 9 o'clock) and the MC at the top. Gold lines show supportive aspects, pink lines tense ones.
How should you read your chart?
Start with your Sun, Moon and rising sign: they describe who you are, what you feel and how you come across. A planet's house shows in which area of life its themes play out, and aspects show how the planets support or challenge each other.
Frequently asked questions
Which house system is used?
Placidus, the most common in Western astrology. Above 66° of latitude this system is undefined, so equal houses are used.
What changes if my birth time is wrong?
The ascendant, MC and houses are very sensitive to time. The planets' signs usually don't change (except the Moon).
What's the difference between Western and Vedic?
Western astrology uses the tropical zodiac tied to the seasons, Vedic astrology the sidereal zodiac tied to the stars. They are about 24° apart today, so in a Vedic chart planets usually appear one sign earlier.
